But who did he write it to? It doesn't seem like a responsible CO - and Anderson was nothing if not responsible - would write to a newspaper in hostile territory and describe how vulnerable he was. How did the Richmond Whig get the letter?

But since the “Richmond Whig” got the letter in December of 1860, that would be classified information, and would require a security clearance and a need to know.
