Store brands are usually from one well-known vendor and repackaged as some store brand - good way to sell off batches that do not meet the well-known vendor’s standards. It the same thing just under a different name at a lower price; you’re not defunding anyone.

Store brands aren’t off spec batches. If they made enough off spec to supply a private label their process controls would have to be awful.

The chemical manufacturer I work for does a bit of private label sales. Production speed is way too high to jerk around with sequesrering off spec. On those rare occasions they rework it or dispose of it.
