They will not “appear as a single star”. They will be separated by an angular distance of about 1/5 of the full moon. Even if they did, their combined magnitude (brightness) would not be as bright as Jupiter was back in July. The fact that the two are on the far side of the sun and will set shortly after twilight means the pair will not appear very bright at all.
