The Monthly Fiber Arts Thread is a monthly gathering of people that love yarn and fabric of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first project, to experienced fiber artists and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
It is impossible to hijack the Monthly Fiber Arts Thread. Knitting, crochet, quilting, weaving, general crafting - there is no telling where it will go, and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us! Send a Private Message to Diana in Wisconsin if you'd like to be added to our Fiber Arts Ping List.
NOTE: This is a once a Month Ping List. We do post to the thread during the month. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest to Fiber Arts fans are welcomed any time!

Nice site. Bookmarked. :)
Do you have nextdoor.com? You could offer them on there, maybe even get $50 or $100 for them, if you are lucky.
The ones my daughter-in-law asked for were from Target last year. They are actually melamine, and we got her a 16 place setting (4 pieces per place setting) set. She has 6 siblings, to they would often entertain up to about 20. This year (she requested) she’s getting new Oneida flatware (stainless). I found a VERY NICE set on sale at Kohl’s for $42.49 a couple weeks ago, it is 16 place settings. The sticker price on the box is $159.99.
Anyone here have experience working with raw angora?
My parents are talking about getting a rabbit or two, and Mom is curious about the possibility of raising her own angora wool.
“Anyone here have experience working with raw angora?”
If Beau ever gets the Pole Barn started...and finished...he said I can have a corner for Angora Rabbits. They’re been on my to-do list for too many years now.
At first he thought I wanted meat rabbits and that I also wanted their pelts, and he was convinced that I was NUTS about not having to kill them to get their ‘fur,’ LOL!
Maybe we can work together on this project in the future or swap eggs for Angora roving?
I am working on Angel Baby Blankets and still slogging away on my next Blue Ribbon Winning crocheted afghan! I'm about finished with all of the cotton dish cloths I'm making for the year; doesn't look like we'll be seeing Beau's side of the family this year at Christmas, anyway. :(
Mine does, too! Have them well hidden. If he would want to find mine, he would have to pick which cedar chest it would be in. But have to burrow under the batting and pillows first!
Everyone in my family has at least one blanket from me except my mom. I’m making her a sack blanket. The bottom half to her waist is like a sack (or sleeping bag). The top half is open like a regular blanket. I found an electric foot warmer sock that fits into the bottom of the blanket that will keep her ice cold feet toasty warm. She always complains about cold feet. I hope this helps her.
Last week we snuck (not a word; I know) Mom out of NY to come south for a few months.
So ... my project: With her she brought a quilt the church had made for them when Dad retired from the ministry in the early ‘90s. Each block was made by a family. When it was sewn together there was ZERO quilting done — just three layers hanging loose. She wants me to quilt it by tying, which I’ve never done before. I only hand quilt, but that would take forever to finish, so I figure it will be faster to learn how to tie and then be done with it.
THAT’s Adorable! But have you seen the price of thread lately? That wreath probably cost a fortune to make!
Try thrift stores, flea markets, garage sales......
Thanks for the pattern! I was thinking of doing something like this for my DIL...I just picked up 4 ladder back chairs for them at Curbie’s yesterday in almost pristine condition...looked brand new! (Curbie’s is from off the curb for those of you who don’t go around picking up junk from other peoples’ trash. Lol). They had a “Free” sign on them. Anyway, they recently moved, didn’t have dining room chairs and were happy to have them...or so they said! Lol. So now that they can actually use their DR, they might need placemats and napkins.
Whitmer just extended our lockdown in Michigan another 10 days, in direct violation of the MISC. I don’t believe their numbers...I want names and towns of everyone they claim has come down with covid and is pushing up the numbers.
I would have DIED for Christmas Spode when I was younger. I still would but I’m busting at the seams...I’m in “breakdown” mode myself. I hate parting with my things.
I’ve never heard the term, ‘Curbie’s’ before, but I’m going to use it from now on!
I’ve found the most amazing things put out at the curb! I have a HUGE oil painting of the seaside in a really fancy gold-leaf frame that I will never part with - FREE, at the curb!
Also plant stands and any number of garden-related things, like a composter that you turn and lots and lots of clay pots through the years.
When I was cleaning out my Pole Barn to move to my ‘new’ (1900!) farm, I had two old snowblowers and all sorts of metal odds and ends. A friend and I put it all at the curb and within minutes a lady in a van asked if she could have it all and we helped load her up. She took it right to the scrap yard for cash. Smart lady! If she was willing to do the hauling, I was more than happy to see it go to recycling while she earned a buck! :)
I knew it would! :)
Long story, but I’m going to try to shorten it up to its essence .... (ha!).
My uncle-in-law remarried after my aunt died. His current wife is a wonderful lady & basically “saved” him from the depths of despair. He could not have found anyone better.
Today, after a bad fall a couple of months ago, she is having surgery on her rotator cuff. She’s nervous for herself, but especially for my UIL who is terrified at the thought of something happening to her (with good reason - story about that, but I’ll skip it).
So the current wife is very excited because her son is expecting his first child & she’ll be a grandma for the very first time. I was going to make a baby blanket in January; however, today I was “rearranging” some baskets of crochet projects, trying to make room for more canning jars, when I saw a baby blanket that I vaguely remember making. It’s a Terry Kimbrough pattern called “Enchanting”, so it’s pretty with some nice detail & in white, & perfect for either a boy or girl. Great way for me to start my day - I should “rearrange” more often - no telling what I’d find!
Here’s a great picture of what the blanket looks like:

So here’s the plan .... the baby blanket for her new grandbaby will be in the mail tomorrow & she should have it by the weekend. She’ll not be feeling so great after surgery, so maybe this will give her a “lift”, cheer her up with thoughts of the new baby coming (March). I am also going to tell her that when she’s enduring rehab, the light at the end of the tunnel will be when that shoulder/arm are healed up and in “baby holding” shape.
When I made this blanket, I was in a Terry Kimbrough blanket crochet-a-thon, making the designs I liked because they were a challenge. There was no particular giftee in mind (I did subsequently make a couple of TK’s blankets for specific babies). ‘Funny’ how things turn out, because this blanket WAS for a special little person, I just didn’t know it when it was on my hook and it turned up this morning with perfect timing.
