THE heir to the $5 billion Getty fortune has died aged 52 in yet another tragedy for the dynasty.
John Gilbert Getty was found unresponsive at a hotel in San Antonio, Texas, just months after the death of his mom and nearly six years after the death of his brother.

He was set to inherit the Getty family fortune, which is estimated to be worth more than $5 billion.
The family released a statement that said: "With a heavy heart, Gordon Getty announces the death of his son, John Gilbert Getty.
"John leaves behind his daughter, Ivy Getty, whom he loved beyond measure, and his brothers Peter and Billy. His brother, Andrew, predeceased John.
"John's mother, Ann Gilbert Getty, passed this September
"John was a talented musician who loved rock and roll. He will be deeply missed."
A cause of death was not given, although there is not believed to have been any foul play.
The 52-year-old is survived by his daughter, Ivy. 'HE WILL BE DEEPLY MISSED'
The 25-year-old shared a touching tribute to her dad on social media, writing: "My father was awesome - coolest man to ever land on this planet and I will forever be the proudest daughter.
Honestly having “FU money” causes more problems.
Drugs
Imagine if they had made him work jobs since he was 11, and never told him how rich the family was.
Or cancer.............
Kinda hard to hide the stretch limos and the 10k Square foot homes in Mailbu...............
Sad news for the family. They have my sympathy. Today the anniversary of my father’s death six years ago.
If in 100 lifetimes, you know you still could not hope to move the needle on your personal wealth, it would impart a certain feeling of pointlessness to a male existence.
I think many women could handle it better, because they’re not defined entirely by their work accomplishments.
A book about ESPN says it was launched with a lot of money from the holdings of
George Getty II, through financial advisor Stuart Evey.
From NY Times 2017 obit of Evey:
“Mr. Getty died of an overdose of alcohol, diet pills and barbiturates in 1973 in what was ruled a probable suicide, but Mr. Evey believed that owning ESPN would have satisfied his ambition to break away from his father.”
dilated eyes
This will likely be Hunter Biden’s fate one day ... found unresponsive in some hotel room or bordello.
Unearned wealth can be a curse. So many depressed millionaires/billionaires with no point or purpose found in life.
Guess he didn’t blow his money on dental care.
The recent family history sounds like a good “Murder, She Wrote” plot.
There’s way too many idle rich in this country.
yep....i say drugs.
I just dont know what the hell he was doing in San Antonio of all places - my hometown.
My theory: She was the killer!
