I’m guessing, and I could be Very Wrong, that you heartland and southern folks make outrageously fantastic spreads for Thanksgiving.

We celebrate it, my family, but Christmas Eve is our big food thing on Staten Island.

Fish and Italian food :)

You guys have probably been making Thanksgiving spreads for 6 generations!!

Hard to top that.

Would love to see the spreads some of you are gonna put out

My aunt Ina in Idaho would put on feasts for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. She had a piece of furniture that looked like a sideboard, but in fact contained a folding table that would seat twenty. There were also two or three card tables for the kids.

Being a boy, I had no idea how much work went into the meal. She prepared for months ahead, making dishes and putting them in the freezer(s). Besides turkey, there’d be ham, duck, goose, venison, and salmon (the last four hunted/caught, it’s Idaho, after all). Sides and desserts galore it goes without saying. I’m afraid the knowledge and expertise that went into these meals is now lost. I doubt my cousins have carried on the tradition.

Me, I’m smoking a turkey breast and my wife is fixing the rest.

We do that just about every day. Thanksgiving We just add a Turkey (or 2) maybe a Ham. Greenbean Casserole, Sweet Potato Pie, Cornbread Dressing, extra Cornbread and Rolls, change the Cream Gravy to Giblet Gravy (and at least double the quantity), the Bar opens at 00:01 Thanksgiving Day at the Host House. Every Adult is required to bring some sort of Adult Beverage if they partake and if We're lucky somebody brings some Moonshine. Host House provides Sweet Tea, Coffee and assorted Soda's: Sundrop, Cheerwine, Fanta Orange and the usual Sprite/7up and Coke or Pepsi. Most likely the WallyWorld Brand.

If the Turkey(s) are going to be Deep Fried that event is done about 1 hour before Service begins. Store Birds cook for 3 minutes @ pound at 360°F, Wild Bird(if lucky enough to have them)ONLY COOK FOR 1 MINUTE @ POUND! I found that out the hard way. The only edible part was about 2 fingers of Breast Meat in each side. If it's oven bird then the Women Folk are in charge of that method because it just takes too long to do. Plus the Women Folk don't like Us in the Kitchen anyway.

Tents and Campers are welcome in case of Adult Beverage over consumption or no Designated Driver. Out of Town Guests already have Kin to stay with or Hotel Reservations.
