And those are deaths “with” covid. “From” covid are a lot lower.
Continued lockdowns are about power, nothing else.
During the Bush Administration the MSM published the name of every dead soldier daily Now nothing because CoVid isn’t the cause of death.
Definitely the second wave. The second bump was the first wave hitting the states that hadn’t seen any activity yet (primarily midwestern states). There’s even some of that still happening now.
The second wave is where the activity has started picking up in places that already got hit in April/May. It’s probably going to roller-coaster through the end of this year until the vaccines get widely deployed. We should have 4 safe and effective vaccine options approved and available by January. Medical personnel and VIPs will get the first doses, but they’ve been making hundreds of millions of doses and President Trump bought a good chunk of them, so Americans get priority.

The blue bit is COVID-19 deaths. It's around 260,000 thus far. In fact, that number is a bit low because there was a surge of excess deaths attributed to things like heart failure, lung failure, and dementia before COVID-19 was well known or understood, and before any testing was available. The actual number is somewhere north of 300,000 as of now. Other causes of death besides COVID-19 are all at normal levels or slightly higher than normal, so it's not the case that every death is being marked as COVID-19. These are people who were not expected to die who suddenly did start dying in March - before any lockdowns even happened - en masse. And we've had excess deaths every single week since March.
But you're right that the lockdowns do nothing helpful. In fact, lockdowns do the opposite. They drive small businesses out of business and drive families into poverty. And poverty is the biggest killer of them all.
Quibbling over the precise numbers does us no good. Our focus should be looking at the responses from the state governments and how effective (or ineffective) they were, and what problems have been with them. For example, Governor Cuomo (and some others) forced nursing homes to accept known-infected patients. That led to tens of thousands of unnecessary deaths. Cuomo and other governors with similar policies should be under indictment for tens of thousands of negligent homicides right now.
The number of dead isn't that important and isn't controllable. The real question is "WHY are they dead?" And in many cases, the answer to that question is that they died because Democrats were too busy flexing power to notice they were killing people. Indict them. Honor the lives of those who have died needlessly by prosecuting the people responsible for their deaths.
