I was a huge Jean Luc-Ponty fan for years, before I even discovered he played with Zappa.

“Unfortunately, brilliant music doesn’t sell.”

If someone wasn’t buying it, it wouldn’t be produced at all. There would be no classical radio stations, no live performances, etc.

Apostrophe is a great album. I still have my original though it is beat up.

yippy yi oh tie aaaaay somehow a nearly a paranormal feel.

Btw, at about this time someone did a song that I’ve been trying to find for years, something like Miss Lucy did the Zambie shuffle every time I pulled her coat tails.

Anyone?

Zappa said that it was the old men with the cigars that were primarily responsible for signing on the more unconventional artists, and were more willing to take risks, than the supposedly “hip” young record execs.

Ponty did the violin on Hot Rats.

But you already knew that.

“I agree with you—I never could understand the appeal.”

And anyone who names his kids Dweezil and Moon Unit is clearly an a-hole no matter how talented a musician he might be.

I'm friends with John Wackerman, Chad's younger brother. We were the same class in high school, just on opposite ends of the country.

Met him when he was playing with Maynard Ferguson.

Well I know that now. I discovered Zappa relatively late in life.

Dweezil is just as talented as his dad, no matter the name.

Would you say the same about Wolfgang Van Halen?

You beat me by one.
I’ve been to four.
Agree with your assessment.

At the pier in NYC I saw him stop a tune to make the band start over, because they “weren’t doing it right”.

Looking for that song for years and just found it. Don’t get me wrong, this song I would hear at like 3am on an fm station, not a song I loved. Just a song I wanted to hear again it was so strange.

Also, I’m no big Zappa fan but I’m familiar with his stuff because of friends at the time.

Dweezil is just as talented as his dad, no matter the name.

He might be able to duplicate his dad's playing, but Frank was much more than that.

Zappa hated everything Republican because of his hatred of Joe McCarthy, from that point on, every Republican was suspect in his mind.

But the thing is, he hated Communism. He was good friends with Vaclav Havel, the Czech dissident, who became President when the Czechs were liberated from Communism.

Just like classical music, every instrument is precisely scored by Zappa.

I think it’s quite good once you past the offensive intro...

That story of FZ telling Steve Vai ‘I hear Linda Ronstadt is looking for a guitarist’ when Steve couldn't play an impossible piece during a try out, always cracks me up.

I am gross and perverted
I’m obsessed ‘n deranged
I have existed for years
But very little had changed
I am the tool of the Government
And industry too
For I am destined to rule
And regulate you
I may be vile and pernicious
But you can’t look away
I make you think I’m delicious
With the stuff that I say
I am the best you can get
Have you guessed me yet?
I am the slime oozin’ out
From your TV set
You will obey me while I lead you
And eat the garbage that I feed you
Until the day that we don’t need you
Don’t go for help...no one will heed you
Your mind is totally controlled
It has been stuffed into my mold
And you will do as you are told
Until the rights to you are sold
That’s right, folks.. Don’t touch that dial
Well, I am the slime from your video
Oozin’ along on your livingroom floor
I am the slime from your video
Can’t stop the slime, people, lookit me go
