What to do when an ovarian cyst really starts to hurt?

I'm a 58 year-old woman who has been diagnosed with two ovarian cysts.

Thanks for sharing your experience. That must have been a horrible time for you. My trip to the emergency room ended up with me getting a temporary colostomy. I was in the hospital for 7 days for that. They did the reversal three months later...5 days in hospital for that. I've had two other abdominal surgeries...one to repair an incisional hernia, and I spent 3 days in the hospital for that. And finally in 2015 I had to have my gall bladder out, and of course, because of the previous surgeries, they couldn't do it laparoscopically. I was able to go home the next day.

I was diagnosed with another hernia in the lower part of my abdomen a couple of years ago. The surgeon asked me what I wanted to do about it, and I told him I really didn't want to go through any more surgeries if it wasn't necessary. He told me that wouldn't be a problem, but just to make sure that if I ever started having symptoms of a blockage, to get to the emergency room. So far, so good. I'm 73.

I have other medical issues, but I'm still kicking, and I've managed to outlive everyone else in my family. The majority of them died by the time they were 69. They were all smokers but me. Three of them died of lung cancer. Only one lived to be 74, so at 73, I feel like I'm living on borrowed time :-)

Okay, well you’re stupid. Don’t ever post to me again. I spent the night in the hospital and I am fine. Turned out to be an infection.

What’s your karma, after saying bs to people you don’t even know.

I am very sorry, in my heart that I asked for people who I consider part of my “family.” I’ve been here 20 years and I have met anyone smarter than FReepers.

I agree, Julie. We sure have our share of assholes here, and they don’t mind chiming in whenever they can. I’m glad you’re feeling better and that it turned out to be treatable.
