Yes, he was just as likely to vandalize a vending machine; it was equally probable that he steal a library book or filch a bottle of aspirin; a miscreant like this could have instead got caught "enhancing" his resumé by "upgrading" a "cum laude" Bachelor of Arts in "Geo-Science" to a "summa cum laude" Master's of Science in Physics.

I notice that they never mention the persons race if the perpetrator is black and the victims are white. They also never capitalize the “B” in black if the story is about a black perpetrator.

Whenever the victims are white, it's always described as a "random" act.To be fair, these "journalists" would probably have just as blithely described these murders as "random" had the victims been Aleuts, Tibetans, Bavarians, or Kurds.
