We were weighing the choice between Florida and Hawaii this January. You would think it would be Hawaii hands down.
We know we can get in a vacation before Biden is elected and implements his Travel Ban and Lockdown of 4 to 6 weeks. And Hawaii says we can come if we pass Covid tests 72 hours in advance. We love Maui and would love to watch the wales in Maui bay. Florida doesn't require the Covid Test at this point.
But I noticed many of the Democratic states are implementing more lockdowns as we speak. So Hawaii could very well implement another lockdown before Biden does denying us our needed vacation (the wife is an ER Nurse). Florida is much less likely to do it and we wouldn't have the flight and rental car costs as we live in Georgia.
Sorry Hawaii, maybe some other time.
Sometimes Elections and Rhetoric have consequences!
Hello B&Bs at St. Augustine!
Blue states on lockdown, red states open.really easy
With all the pandemic rules, there is a possibility, you could be stuck in Hawaii for a long while!
Florida..................
do you want to hang out with Nazi’s or Patriots?? Seems a no brainer to me. Florida is RED country
I like the idea of planning a trip before we might see a national shutdown. It’s probably not good to go to Hawaii because of who is in charge there.
Florida is much more open than Hawaii. Many of Hawaii’s restaurants and tourist attractions are closed or about to. They often shut down their beaches. They are known to invoke curfews of two weeks at the drop of a hat. They are uber liberal. I have family there.
Florida still has stuff open. Their governor is less likely to invoke travel restrictions and lockdowns. Their restaurants are still open. I have family there.
Pick your poison.
Boycott blue states! (Coming from a blue state denizen.)
Just remember it’s “snowbird” season in FL so rates may be higher?
Wasn’t Hawaii locking down all visitors?
I thought people could go to Hawaii they just couldn’t SEE Hawaii.
The Welsh love Maui?
I’d go further much south. St. Augustine can be pretty cold in January.
Hawaii is in lockdown. That is all RAT territory.
I’ve gone to Hawaii a dozen times over the last 10 years. I ain’t goin back. They don’t want you there.
Lived in north Fla for over 50 years. We go here every chance we get. Since coming back from the 1st trip I don’t even care to go to north Fla beaches anymore.

Is time of flight a factor?
If you’re in CA, they’re the same distance. If you’re on the East Coast, Hawaii is a marathon flight compared to Florida.
That, along with amount of jet lag, would be a factor for me.
From Georgia, Florida seems much easier. The plane trip to Hawaii is LONG. And they are ultra liberal so I imagine many restrictions from the power trippers.
Disregard. Posted the wrong link
Drive vs. fly -— a no-brainer. (My wife wants to go to Hawaii, and I’ll be happy to go as soon as we can drive there. It’s not the flying itself that I mind, but all of the associated TSA nonsense. And now there’s the mask BS too.)
