When Jim announced last night he had to do an emergency move of servers, I will be honest, I was concerned with all the shenanigans going on in the world. So happy to see it up and running.
Is there a plan for the future for when those who are running the site can no longer do so? If not maybe a good time to start thinking about it. Alomo-girl is gone, all that information.
When I saw the front page I thought I was ZOTTED again.
Then later I read what it said.
what happened to Alamo Girl?
agree... there’s also an opportunity to drive MASSIVE amounts of ‘conservatives’ here in the light of the exodus from facebook and parler, etc. but freerepublic desperately needs a dramatic upgrade to the user interface, etc.
A very serious business could be made out of Freerepublic if that was the intent.
whoops... ** exodus from facebook and twitter.
Sorry, I love the “interface, etc.” It is great that you can use html in your posts for instance. Where else can you get as creative as you can here? As soon as we sell our house... I will be making a big donation to help the crew keep it exactly the way that it is.
Ditto that
Hogwash!
Just what we need at FR, another display of moronicity...
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
Is there any plan to improve the speed with the new system. It is almost not usable now.
Like hell it does! It's simple, quiet, easy, quick*, and serves the purpose it's intended to serve very well.
The very last thing FR needs is to start looking like FacePlant or Twatter or any of those.
LEAVE IT THE WAY IT IS -- IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T "FIX" IT.
* Note: post-migration page load is quite slow, however I assume that's due to post-migration server maintenance (things like a database backup kill DB performance), so I'm being patient.
It will take a little while to get the glitches out be PATIENT we are NOT google for crying out loud!!!
I was addressing the fact that a day will come when Jim can no longer run this site. We could set up a trust to run it under a non profit charter.
Is something changed? Every click on FR is taking 3-4 minutes to load today. Other websites are fine but is it like this for everyone? or just me?

How about cooling your jets! I posted that in case the webmaster was not aware. Exclamation marks will not solve the problem. Others have posted here with hard facts that explain the situation. It is not clear why you can’t do the same.
New server hosting setup. Haven’t gotten to the explanation for why there was an emergency move.
Same here... very slow.
Hosting provider physically moved the datacenter. They were scheduled to move in the spring but the provider moved the date up without warning.
Where did the DSL go?
