Did they do that back in the ‘50’s, have the vax for free?

I remember standing in line for the Sabin sugar cube with my parents. I don't know if they paid anything for it, but my guess is that it was free as a public health program.

Jonas Salk's vaccine got the publicity, but it probably caused more polio than it prevented. Turns out it wasn't quite "Dead."

I stood in line for the first mass vax. It was not a sugar cube either. It was free. I lucked out-my school did not get the “undead” vax from cutter labs.

Next year was the start of the SV40 contamination. My parents decided not to sign the permission slip. Everyone who got that shot got sick and threw up. So I lucked out again. Ha.
