My question is, has anyone gotten their hands on the software in the tabulating machines? Something like IDA Pro could decompile the binaries and turn up any backdoors.

ATM machines, considering they have to talk to many different banks, sometimes different currencies, and communicate between different types of systems have at least the same level of complexity as voting systems.

We rarely, if ever, hear about them botching the money count, though.

Cyber security deep dive on our voting system. This goes into where you vote is going through the whole process, much of which you described, but the computer side.

Many systems don’t have the kind of logging the system you described has. But getting access to whatever log files exist is useful.

This has been a known security problem with these machines:

Also, the problems with Dominion were well known long before the elections and much bigger than the county in Georgia:

Early in 2020, Dems held a hearing with 3 major private election vendors, including DOMINION VOTING SYSTEMS. The Dem. Chair revealed voting components from China, widespread Internet & hacking vulnerability & WORSE. https://twitter.com/kylenabecker/status/1324951251294040064?s=20

Texas tested and shot down Dominion machines three times, twice in 2019 https://www.sos.texas.gov/elections/laws/dominion.shtml

6 pdf reports from the people that tested Dominion machines in most recent try https://www.sos.texas.gov/elections/laws/oct2019-dominion.shtml

One of the complaints was that they could be connected to an external network aka the Internet.

SCYTL owns the servers that Dominion uses; our votes go to a database in Germany https://twitter.com/AndreasSchub/status/1325347577085177857

Analysis of SCYTL here: https://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/3903686/posts

America’s new voting machines bring new fears of election tampering https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2019/apr/22/us-voting-machines-paper-ballots-2020-hacking

Alleges voter fraud involving Scytl in 2018 in Texas that the FBI refused to look at. https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1325203412716154882.html Expert examination of the computer logs revealed that thousands of error codes for “Time stamp mismatch” and Votes exceed ballots” were overridden by the ES&S technician. Voting Machine Firms Add Lobbyists Amid Election Hacker Concerns

Pelosi’s ex-chief of staff represents No. 2 manufacturer
Voting machine manufacturers are increasing their Capitol Hill presence as lawmakers demand they do more to protect U.S. elections against foreign hackers. Dominion Voting Systems — which commands more than a third of the voting-machine market without having Washington lobbyists — has hired its first, a high-powered firm that includes a longtime aide to Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

April 16, 2020:

Former White House Cybersecurity Coordinator, Michael Daniel, notes in the film that voting machine companies generally are not known for cybersecurity expertise. Jake Stauffer, a former cyber analyst for the Air Force who has tested ES&S and Dominion voting systems for the state of California observed that:

What I have found, especially in the voting system arena, is that security is not really taken very seriously.

Jake Stauffer, former cyber analyst for the Air Force who tested ES&S and Dominion voting machines.

When Stauffer tested ES&S’s DS200 machine, they found multiple vulnerabilities that would enable an attacker to gain full access to the system, change configurations, and install a modified operating system without election officials knowing. Stauffer states that the vulnerabilities would enable a hacker to gain the highest level of privilege and gain remote access into the system and do whatever they wanted to do, “whether its change an election or shut the system down.”

October 8:
ATLANTA — With the start of early voting less than a week away and a software update being installed to address a glitch in Georgia’s voting machines, a federal judge was still considering a request by voting integrity activists to sideline the new touchscreen voting machines in favor of hand-marked paper ballots for the November general election.

US District Judge Amy Totenberg is presiding over a long-running lawsuit challenging the election system the state bought last year from Dominion Voting Systems for more than $100 million. The activists argue the system places an unconstitutional burden on the right to vote because voters cannot be confident their votes are accurately counted. A bug in the touchscreen machines and a hasty software updates underscore that the machines aren’t ready for use, they say.
