I thought the Governor filled the empty positions with interim appointments? Maybe I’m wrong about that. What do they do when someone dies between elections? I’m theorizing that that’s what they’ll do here.
Governors may appoint senators under the rules of the 17th Amendment, but House members can only be chosen via election.
The filling of vacancies varies by state.
In the past when there was a question about an election of, for example, a Senator, the recounts and court challenges could take months.
And there have been states that have ordered a do-over for some races-I simply don’t know the answer.
