Fox News wanted to run special election coverage with some of their top news talent instead of the Judge.

That's it.

Goodbye America. You had a nice run.

I disagree as to completely turning off FOX.

They know what programs we watch, so the best punishment would be for us to watch Lou Dobbs, Tucker Carlson, Maria Bartiromo and a few others.....and immediately after their show is over change the channel to Newsmax.

Shows are rated by the hour and by the show itself.

That method would have the most impact.

“Non compete clause???”

Probably not more than a year. Shemp Smith left Fox last October and low and behold back on the Air at PSNBC starting this October.

I heard that Fox has definite non-compete clauses in their talent’s contracts. Some 6 months, some one year. Sean is wealthy so he could walk away, pay the penalty, and keep on truckin’. IIRC, Tucker is wealthy, too, with family “old money”, so could do the same.

>>>Make the switch folks<<<

Good luck with that . . .

Heck, we can’t even convince some so-called FReepers to turn their backs on the unamerican NFL, MLB, NBA, etc.

...the first amendment applies to government, not companies.

Employees do not have first amendment rights.

it isn’t a first snendment issue. She’s an employee of Fox, and Fox can set their own guidelines.

No one has a “first Amendment right” to appear on a cable news channel.

The[1st amendment]constraint applies to the Government, not to the media.

First Amendment protections only apply if the person or entity is a governmental official/organization.

That would not be a violation of the First Amendment.

I agree with all of the above. And from a purely legalistic and libertarian perspective that's the end of the argument. The problem, though, is that the principle of free and open speech used to be a cultural value that was broadly respected by individuals and institutions. We have lost that and it is to our detriment.

If she can show before a court that her suspension was in violation of the contract the judge will vacate her contract

The problem is that these “private companies” have become wholly controlled government organs. To deny such is willful ignorance.

I will actually go one step further. Individuals 'ALLOWED' it to happen. By buying into the notions of not saying something because it might upset another, or god-forbid, offend someone.

The biggest detriment to society is that people became too concerned about what others might think, whether it is a neighbor, a random person in a supermarket, someone at the country club, etc.

As a society, and individuals, far too many have forgotten the one key element about freedom: you're only free when you exercise that freedom. I don't know where I read it, or even who said it but the phrase, "Liberty is Muscle that Must Be Exercised." seems particularly relevant here.

I love our President and I love our First Amendment. But editorial control by a news outlet over an employee is not a First Amendment violation. Her opinions expressed on the air are not testimony under oath in a court of law, or an affidavit on an official document. Nor did they broadcast her image but use a voiceover to say something entirely different. They have the right to control the messaging on their franchise; and we have the right not to patronize their franchise
