Build your own, 80 percent lower and complete kit is $600-$700
When Zero got elected, I did the cowboy assault rifle conversion on a Marlin 336.
Rail, ghost ring sights, red dot, light - .30-30, AWB proof. Lots of fun.
That is SUCH a smart move!!!
Mossberg makes one now,

I have a bear creek in 6.5 grendel that’s scary accurate and ammo is easy to find. I reload and dang primers are like gold I’m sitting on mine won’t shoot anything but 22lr which I bought a literal pallet of years ago well over 50,000 rounds left. My chipita M4 22lr upper shoots any 40gr solid nose. Bear creek makes ok quality uppers I also have a 7.62x39 , a 6.5 creedmoor AR 10 , and a 458 socom from them all are reliable shooters if I feed them brass cased ammo. I don’t pollute my rifles with commie steel cased trash.
The word You are looking for is AK-47.
Good and well in general, however, no shotgun rounds penetrate 3a soft armor.
And, at less than 30 yards or so, the shotgun is a point weapon too. Past that it is pretty useless
Get the AR, get any 55-62 grn US made or European 556 ammo, avoid shell cased if at all possible.
A red dot optic is great out to useful defensive distance.
Get 6 or so mags,
The colonel is way behind the power curve. Hope he has other layers of security in The meantime.

Oh, and 55 fmj and 62 as well are very useful in terms of stopping threats at close range. Softs or hp’s too.
Shotguns also suffer from low capacity and high recoil.556 is loud, but even in a carbine very lightly recoiling and quick to recover. .
If scatterguns were the bomb, well, ARs wouldn’t be....
But, to each his own.
The guy asked a question about ar-15s and i just wasnt going to give a reply like that.
I dont know ar15s personally, but i have read enough to know people rave about certain makers’ versions of them because they perform better under tough field conditions than other companies’ versions.
I have experience with the 7.62x39 items but thats not what he wants to use.
Roger all, thanks. Home defense is a 12-ga shotgun, carry pieces are a S&W Sigma .40 call and a Ruger LCP as backup. Alarm system is current.
I may be an officer but I learned weaponry from a USN Master Chief.

Agreed. You can still (for the moment) buy reasonably priced uppers and 80% lowers without BATF restrictions and assemble one yurself. The lower kits usually come with all the parts, and the drill bits and jig to finish it yourself. Other than that, you’re really gonna have to scour and scavenge to find an out of the box AR. Check your local pawn shops. Good luck.
What a joke. Your 18 months too late. You still asking who will win the 2018 World Series since you havent been paying attention.
The kit is available ... but you need the lower. That ... is what is about as rare as Hen’s teeth these days.

I agree.
Just purchased one. My first AR pistol. It was in black instead of the grey kit, on sale $379.99
I built it on a newly purchased ,stripped Spike’s Tactical Betsy Ross flagged lower receiver. Added a nice 3 1/2 lb. single stage drop in trigger and enhanced lower parts kit. It has always been a pistol will always be a pistol.
I added a flip up rear sight as the kit didn’t come with one and the optic I use is a Sig-Sauer Romeo5 red dot.
This exact build shoots 3/4” groups at 25 yds, 1 - 1 1/2” at 50 yds. Quite effective out to 200 yards. Fits and maneuvers inside vehicles well.
Glad I stocked up on gear as much as I could this year as we are going to see gun shortages again on top of the ongoing ammo shortage.
Keep your powder dry.

It depends upon what and where you are defending against. AR15's in a closely populated neighborhood could be hard on your neighbors. But, for a run-and-gun scenario with some room to move, they are great.
Walked through the Cabelas in Hamburg PA today and the gun cases were literally bare.
Have never seen anything like it.
Gunbroker has a listing available now with a buy it now price of 125.
Really not that helpful, but thanks.
Your weapon, or the lady’s?
3 bushmaster lowers, 3 bushmaster uppers, 1 stoner upper here.
The carbon fiber lowers (ex bushmaster carbon-15) are incredibly light. Don’t pimp it out, unless you want to carry that shit while it does nothing for you.
Plan on $500 or so for a decent optic that the shooter likes. I like the trijicon accupoint 3-9 scopes.
The lady preferred the trijicon 42mm red-dot before she passed.
Shooter needs to try the rig before you buy it.
Gunbroker has plenty of ARs. Not outrageous prices. I remember after O'Bummer got elected, they were selling for 3 and 4 times their MSRP.
I own a Ruger AR556, a Sig 716 (308), Daniel Defense DDM4 and a S&W M&P15 PC. Of the four, I think given your criteria the Ruger AR556 would be best.
It's a very basic gun and is the one behind the nightstand. I have a Sig P220 SAE 45 ACP in the nightstand.
Ammo is going to be hard to find. If I were you, I go to MidwayUSA and sign up. Then go to every 5.56 ammo brand they sell. It isn't in, but you can click the "notify me" button underneath the offering. They will notify you when they get some in. They just happen to have some Sierra 223 as I type this.
Patience, FRiend. You already have a few guns. You know what they say about someone with just one gun? "Be careful. He probably knows how to use it."
