My Mom taught me to sew, crochet, embroidery, paint (even if it was "paint by numbers" LOL), cook, clean, do laundry, fish, crab, work, drive and countless other life skills.
Many of the first skills I listed were for making gifts for friends and family. The blushing from the gushing was extreme on my part.
She always said she didn't want her sons to have to be dependent on anybody, including a wife/woman.
Knitting was one of the few things she didn't teach me.
I do miss her since her death.

Your mother was a wise and gifted woman.

DH learned how to sew before he could read because he learned how to fix sewing machines at an early age. So mother, grandmother, aunts etc would have him fix their machines. He didn’t learn how to do most of those other things though (other than working and driving!).
