Just getting ready to shower and make a store run. Might go to the booze emporium and pick up a pint of apricot brandy. Been fighting a little bit of a bug, and this was my dad's remedy. Seems to work, believe it or not. I'm also going to pick up a couple of Duraflame logs, getting cold tonight, and the freeze warnings are almost to our county line. The contractors finally made it this week. Some birds got up under the soffit in one corner of the roof, and they built a nest so big, the wood had a gap stuffed full of straw. Then they tore down all the wood facing on the front of the garage and totally rebuilt it. Looks great, just needs painted now. (And some new gutters.) They fixed a plumbing drain leak in one bathroom that required crawling most of the way under the foundation slab to get to, which I certainly can't do anymore, and fixed two other leaks in the new shower here in the den that I never got to, so I can finally finish remodeling it and the missus can have her 2nd shower that this end of the house. (The master bath only has a garden tub - go figure.) I also FINALLY got the chimney flue and rain cap installed in the roof so I can use my living room fireplace, hence the Duraflame. I'll burn a starter log in it this evening to see how airtight everything is. Then, assuming they did the job properly (it looks good from the outside), then I'll burn hardwood in it. Those were some immediate concerns.
One of the neighbors to our right must have had an episode a few days ago. Connie had just gotten up for work and we heard sirens. A rescue squad engine, ambulance, and equipment truck pulled up at their house, and were there for over an hour. I saw her SUV pull out with them. The next day, several cars were there most of the day and then left, and I don't see her there today. They're an older couple - he's in his 80's, she's in her 70's and works P/T at the local hospital - and he had health issues, so we don't know what's going on there. They guy on the other side of us went whizzing down I-185 on his motorcycle a few years back, got clipped in merging traffic at a ramp, and basically spread himself down a quarter mile stretch of freeway. And I have two semi-useless appendeges since we moved here in '13. Prior to that, I was as healthy as an ox. I'm telling you, this street is cursed.
