...In her case, things don’t add up. Not much weight lost. The story seems awful weak... My first thought was that there must have been a love interest involved, although it was hard to guess which of the 387 possible "genders" it might have been.

Maybe she was doing her version of a Jesse Jackson ‘hunger strike’.
Although most here likely don’t remember, long ago Jesse was hunger strike to protest conditions in black neighborhoods (seem so quaint now), when, after 30 days, a reporter asked him why he didn’t seem to have lost any weight. Jesse stated something to the effect that in his form of a hunger strike, other people rotate in and out for him, so after a day or two, he gets to ‘grab a bite’.
