Is a catfish that large still tasty?

I enjoy fried catfish. It would make a great fish-fry!

I’ve got a friend who is a fish farmer. She said that once a catfish gets over 3 or 4 pounds it’s only good for breeding. The bigger ones taste muddy.
But I’m sure they’d be better soaked in buttermilk before breading and frying!

Mostly it depends on what it's been eating recently.

For channel catfish when I was a KY teen, we used to net shad under a light at night.

Then leave them in a water-filled bucket on a barn roof for a couple days.

To fish, we would thread them whole on a night crawler rig.

We often caught 5-10 fish a night. All in the 3-10 pound range. Some way more.

Yep, the more the bait stinks, the more catfish you catch.

We would sometimes buy congealed blood from the abattoir for bait.
