I could not disagree more. These are beautiful parodies of vintage travel posters. What you are describing is just photographs.
Everyone has seen photos of these cities during the rioting/burning/looting/pooping etc. This is a very clever idea, appreciated by the more intelligent population I suppose. :)

These travel posters are done in a retro style. I read an article about old travel posters for the national parks that were done it this style. I believe it’s from the 30s.
This is similar to art deco.
