Because he’s not an insider. He’s not even really a Democrat.
Sure, he’s a socialist, but he’s the wrong kind of socialist. He comes from the CPUSA branch of socialism, the people who never were smart enough to figure out that that openly advocating for Marxism in the USA was a losing proposition. The rest of the Democrats are more like Fabian socialists. They want to reach the same goal, but they know they need to get there slowly and incrementally. Bernie wants to turn the heat up too fast and then the frogs will jump out of the pot.

They forced Bernie out to insure Biden was there to help cover Obama, Hillery, Pelosi and others in on the Traitors club feeding frenzy. I don’t think Bernie has a dog in that race. He is just a Communist, not a traitor.
Unfortunately for them Biden turned out to be poor cover.
