John Lilly documented this with use of isolation tanks he developed where people float in a dark silent tank.

Of course Lilly also used plenty of drugs too.

A not so great movie called Altered States was made based in these isolation tank studies.

I kind of liked it in a weird way, but when I watched it again out of nostalgia a few years ago...it didn’t hold up well.

I did enjoy a movie called “DreamScape” though...:)

Interesting isolation tank episodes in Tom Clancy’s book Cardinal of the Kremlin. One of his best imho.
