Not being explicit when using sarcasm can lead to big problems. I have already heard on radio network news a broadcast and a comment on Lindsey Graham’s use of an offensive expression, something about “the good old days of segregation”.

I did not hear it live at the beginning of today’s hearings. I did hear Graham say to someone on camera during an early break that he was “dripping with sarcasm”. Sorry, Lindsay, that sarcasm does not show itself in an excerpt of your own voice. If he loses his election, his own “‘basket of deplorables” comment will be part of the reason. There is no place for sarcasm at a Senate hearing.

Sarcasm is ok here on Freerepublic but should always include the end-sarcasm tag. Why should readers have to guess about a person’s intended sarcasm?
