Democratic presidential front-runner (Joseph R. Biden), who has denounced President Trumps efforts against Central American asylum-seekers, vigorously opposed resettling as refugees South Vietnamese who had helped the U.S. during the war.
The Washington Examiner ('No obligation': Joe Biden opposed helping South Vietnamese refugees reach U.S. in 1970s) Thursday, citing (records) from the administration of President (Gerald R. Ford), that as a U.S. senator, Mr. Biden tried to deny refuge to hundreds of thousands fleeing the imminent North Vietnamese victory and likely Communist persecution.
Mr. Bidens arguments about refugees reverse what he and other Democrats now insist are the only moral stances, saying that the U.S. had no obligation, moral or otherwise, to evacuate foreign nationals, the Examiner reported.

Ironically, the likes of JFK actually supported refugees from Communist countries like Cuba, which meant back then, he was more like a Republican in outlook despite being a Democrat in terms of party.
The Hayden-wing of the Democrats really ruined things (and I have a funny feeling that the Hayden-wing of Democrats would have loved to kill JFK had they had an opportunity to do so). Sure, the Democrats back then weren’t at all good, but at least they actually LOVED America and its ideals, and actually hated Communism in all of its forms. Hard to believe it now, but JFK back then was very much anti-Communist, he was nothing like his brother Ted who actually DID side with the USSR just to keep Reagan from winning reelection.
