Except they used to have to work while being taken care of. Who are the slaves now?

Exactly. It’s somewhat easy for Conservatives to look at some of the Democrat base and say “tsk tsk tsk they are still on the plantation”.

But if we look at ourselves, we are slaves too. The other party dances in the streets and has demonstrations. We don’t do that as much — because we all have jobs, and families, and homes, right? We have to work and pay our taxes to keep that whole welfare state afloat. So, isn’t pretty much everyone on the plantation in one way or another?

My view of the modern global economy is that it is very much based on some form of slavery. That’s actually been very literally true for almost all of human history. We tell ourselves that our economy isn’t based on slavery. We’re modern. But I think in 100 years people will look back at us and say “They didn’t even know they were slaves; how could they not have seen it?”.
