Blacks generally have a hard time understanding freedom from government coercion. These days, they aren’t alone.
In general I don’t see “Black Christians” as a religious affiliation as much as a political/social construct; after JFK was grilled about the potential influence of his Catholicism on his political policies, we watched TWO black ministers (Jack$on, $harpton) campaign for president with no such questions.
I see little evidence of Christianity in the larger American culture today (with rampant adultery and divorce, for examples); I see even less in “black Christians” (adding in the out-of-wedlock births and murder rate).
Whites actually trying to live their lives according to Christian principles are a small sub-set of the population; they are an even smaller subset in the black population.
I’m more interested in countering his arguments for why Whites vote republucan.
He basically says it had to do with Strom Thurman changing parties and Nixon’s southern strategy.
He never brought up Eisenhower, and I think a lot of people switched with Eisenhower.
