There could easily be 7 foot tall guys walking around in various parts of the Earth. Also Manute Bol 7’7” and his son Bol Bol 7’2”. A little bit of imagination and you have got 12 feet. And then there is hyperglycemia and also hypoglycemia which could create a Goliath type person. If a person stands 5’7” and sees a 7footer, the fright in battle could be gigantic.

I have no reason to believe the stories about the Red Haired Giant, as I don't know anyone who has seen one, nor have I seen one. Moar proof is needed.
I have read about the giants bones that were discovered and disappeared after the Smithsonian gathered them up. The theory is that it might be used to refute Evolution-so they wanted to hide them. I saw a picture from the newspaper of a fairly young Queen Elizabeth looking at a huge skeleton and other news paper reports.
I also read about some historians who traced a white Indian Tribe back to Wales --the tablets of the Indians were ancient dialect from Wales. Just because giants were here at one time, Doesn't mean they are still alive somewhere and running around. Frankly the issue is not at the top of my concerns right now.
