Can anyone here recommend good scary horror, sci-fi films that are suitable to watch with kids? My children are 9, 12 and 14 so they are too old for the young kiddie stuff but I don't want them watching anything with lots of blood and gore and profanity. I'm not interested in those types of films.
Films I have on DVD and have watched with my kids include Frankenstein (1931), The Old Dark House (1932), The Mummy (1932), The Black Cat (1934), Bride of Frankenstein (1935), The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (1947), Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956), Don't Be Afraid of the Dark (1973) so I'm looking for films like this.
I have other films like Burnt Offerings (1976), Jaws and the 1978 Invasion of the Body Snatchers remake but I don't think they are ready for that.
Anyone have suggestions?

Thank you for the post!
Something Wicked this Way Comes... perhaps.
Gremlins.
Spiderwick Chronicles for sure.
You’re welcome!
Gremlins?
Escape from Witch Mountain.
Good memory. I forgot about that!
The best thing about a scary movie you don’t actually watch (maybe you saw the trailer, or the ad on tv or photos in a magazine)... you end up creating an even scarier movie in your mind.
Trailers (the last one may be too intense)
White Zombie (Bela Lugosi 1932)

This could be a trailer for a horror film about COVID

“She says she was also told that live birds would have to be used in some scenes, and she recounts spending five days with live birds being thrown at her and attached to her body. She finally reached her breaking point when a bird attached to her shoulder almost pecked her in the eye after the exhausting experience she says she spent an entire week in bed.”
CGI doesn’t carry such real life risk
bttt
I am seeing hundreds and thousands pass through events these past 2 weekends. Public has gotten over “The fear”. They aren’t sitting at home anymore.
“Abbot and Costello The Time of Their Lives was one of my favorites growing up.

Do you have a DVD of it?

Every. Single. Time. Its SOLD-OUT.
Augh.”

Our copy is part of an Abbott & Costello collection.
Maybe you could look for it that way.
Good Luck.
It’s one of my favorites.
“Mark Of The Vampire’’ with Bela Lugosi.
“Rats! Thousands of rats!’’.
Medea’s Halloween is OK some language and reference to pot but the Medea flicks are generally decent and have moral messages.
I like the family friendly series featuring Freddy Krueger.......
“...maybe you saw ...the ad on tv...”
Oh yeah, that’s me! After the ads for “Saw” came out (and they were just creepy, not gory at all) I was afraid to go down to the laundry room (in a two family house no less). I would make my daughter come with me.
She’d say: Mom, you’re so silly!
I’d say: Do you want clean clothes?
