A home in Fort Lauderdale is severely damaged after a crane toppled over on top it.

It happened in the 1900 block of NE 57th Street on Friday around noon.

Video from Chopper 4 shows the crane collapsed onto the roof and the cab turned over on its side.

There are reports of at least one minor injury but it’s not know whether the person is the crane operator or someone in the house.

This is a developing story and will be updated as much information is made available.

1 and 3 are the same. I don’t know where 2 came from. Maybe that crane operator is having a bad day.

This is what happens when you let more than one “Florida man” play with big boy toys. What did you expect? /sarc

Looks like the roof was just done and they were picking up excess materials and WOOPS

Everytime you see one of these operations, you are watching a dance between gravity and ‘critical angle’ (CA) and ‘center of gravity’(CG). If the crane is close to vertical and within tolerance for its load, there is no problem unless an outside force intervenes; high wind or support shift. Move the crane arm & load away from vertical and you move the CG and you start playing the dance music. The critical factors are the weight of the load and the angle of the crane. The higher the angle, the higher the weight capacity and vice-versa. The CA is where the arm & weight & extension exceed the base weight and put the CG outside tolerance.

When the crane operator feels that little shift, he/she needs new underware.

Damage appears to be to 2 houses if not 3. Probable power line interruptions as well. Going to be a while clearing up this mess! OSHA will be living in their pockets for a long stay!

I agree, the ground level shot has the boom projecting in roughly the same direction as the truck, off to the left over the house. The large aerial shot has the boom pointing away from the truck cab, off to the right of picture. The third picture is a house with different roof.

Possible correction to my #32, it looks like the first and third pictures match by the truck orientation.

I was operating a crane while setting off a large electric motor inside a plant. I had the long part of the truck facing toward the boom and motor. The other guys grabbed the motor to guide it in and I noticed that the cab was tipping forward. Extended too far. I let out some cable and the crane’s rear outriggers set back down on the ground.

Drank a lot of beer that night.

The first two pictures show circular drives, second no, third roof is different.

Well, there are many crane accidents in the naked city...this has been three of them.

Yeah, all three pics are of different events. The tractor in the first pic looks like a Peterbuilt, the second pic is some kind of a cab-over tractor, and who knows what/where the third pic is from.

I just suggest nobody hire a crane in Florida.

You sure that third photo is the same accident? Roofs look real different.

The cab of the truck is in two different directions. The small trees by the street are different.
