The Seattle Storm defeated the Las Vegas Aces on Tuesday night to win the 2020 WNBA Finals. It was a dominant effort from to finish, with Seattle’s margin of victory ultimately being 33 points.

Breonna Stewart, the Finals MVP, was the big star of the evening. She scored 26 points and was unquestionably the best player on the floor.

One other person who stole the show, though?

Veteran Sue Bird, who celebrated the title by kissing her girlfriend, soccer star Megan Rapinoe.

The WNBA is completely financed by the MNBA, which is under terrific financial stress. I would imagine one of the first things to go when the MNBA has to cut expenses will be the WNBA.

That would be true if the NBA were being run as a rational business. But the creation and financing of the WNBA has been virtual signaling from its inception. I would think the WNBA would be one of the last things to go. I can see marginal men’s teams (which nonetheless create more revenue) being let go.
