Eddie Van Halen, the all-American guitar hero who, with his namesake hard-rock band Van Halen, redefined the sound and possibilities of the electric guitar in the 1970s and 80s, died on Tuesday at age 65. The cause was throat cancer.
I cant believe Im having to write this, but my father, Edward Lodewijk Van Halen, has lost his long and arduous battle with cancer this morning, wrote his son, Wolfgang Van Halen via Twitter.
He was the best father I could ever ask for. Every moment Ive shared with him on and off stage was a gift... I love you so much, Pop.

Kind of an interesting factoid....
The anniversary of Jimi Hendrix’s death is two days after my birthday. Eddie left us two days after my dad’s birthday.
Also their deaths are just over 50 years apart.
Interesting remark. I like the acronym album (I won’t mention the title) especially the first side though “Runaround” was a bit cheesy. Pleasure Dome could be a top 5 Hagar-sung song for me.
Jeff Spicoli once hired Van Halen for a party, using the reward money he got for saving Brook Shields from drowning.
KLOS is playing all Van Halen. My local stations are to dumb to do that. But I knew that already...

My local classic rock station (98.5 KFOX in San Jose) usually does a commercial-free hour starting at 4:30. Today it was nothing but Van Halen.
You missed comment #15.
I recall the first time I heard it was sitting around a spool table doing shots with friends.

Bill and Ted will be disappointed.
I was so sad to hear about this. Greg Gutfeld on The Five said it, and that’s how I learned the news.
I felt just as sad when Neil Peart died.
Imagine Peart on the drums and Van Halen on the guitar. Pretty amazing matchup!
Maybe they’re rocking out in Heaven.
That’s exactly what I was thinking! First, the tail end of impeachment, not enough; then Covid, still not enough; then rioting and looting in major cities, still not quite enough; the upcoming election, unsolicited ballots and fight over the Supreme Court nominee, even that isn’t good enough.
So 2020 says to itself, why not have another great musician die? Peart and Van Halen? Two! And 2020 is the year made of twos, so THAT’S IT!
What a great picture! Thanks for posting!!!
He did do the solo on Beat It, and he did it for free. Wouldn’t accept payment.
It is a sucky year. Please see my post #115.
2020 is really doing a number on us.
That is odd.
I remember when Tupac Shakur (?) died. It was the same day that my grandfather died.
I lost one of my all-time favorite musicians this year in Lyle Mays.
