You can tell from the article the CDC sill wants to cripple the Cruise industry, but has ben frustrated by the White House.

Petri dishes.
I find it odd that the CDC has any say in this at all. Shouldn’t this be the pervue of state governors?
It would seem to me that if governor Coumo, Desantis, Abott or Newsom are allowed to open or close the rest of their states then the Cruise industry would in that state would be subject to their control.
Why can non-floating casinos in Las Vegas open but floating ones can’t?
I say use them as an experiment. Offer Every passenger an all paid for cruise to the Caribbean, but the catch is that each passenger that wants to cruise, has to take hydroxychloquine and a Z pack every day they are on the cruise. Hand it out at dinner and make sure they take it. If they all take it and get off the crusie with no symptoms or deaths, boom! Proof it works. Hell I’d sign up for that in a heart beat!
Have been on five cruises and loved them, last was with 50+ others in May 2019.
Will likely wait at least a year on the next, though.
Imagine if people really were dying from this?
What’s the status of the cruise industry in other nations/markets? Anything going on in the Med?
“Offer Every passenger an all paid for cruise to the Caribbean”
Good idea, but no way they’d give away that much alcohol. :-)
Bookings were already around half price when they were shut down.
Future bookings are still pretty cheap.
Bull Chit
“Petri dishes.”
The analogy is ignorant and getting tiresome. Usually made by those who cannot afford to on one. The CDC will drive the Cruise industry into bankruptcy and it will ruin more people then you can imagine.
The petri dishes are the Wuhan labs.
Lots of cruisers are going to pass up on cruises with onerous covid protocols.
Check on the onboard and shore excursion rules before you put any money up. -Tom
From the article-Cruises in Europe have, these last two months, been underway successfully and without any significant issues. Major Cruise lines like MSC Cruises, TUI Cruises, Costa Cruises, and Hapag-Lloyd are all sailing with at least one ship.
Our oldest daughter lives in the UK with her children. My wife has a bad back which makes long economy class flights excruciating. We use repositioning cruises to go back and forth to Europe. We’ll fly one way and take the cruise back the other way. The cost for both of us in a balcony room for a 14-17 day trip across the Atlantic is often less than one full price economy airline ticket. Just an amazing deal.
So, shore excursions don’t mean a whole lot to use. We’d planned to fly to Manchester UK this November then after two weeks take flight to Rome and then take the Jewel of the Seas from Rome to Galveston, stopping only twice, once in Barcelona and once in Tenerefe.
There are cruises in the Med.
“Good idea, but no way theyd give away that much alcohol. :-)”
You pay extra for alcohol on most cruise lines anyway. You pay extra for soft drinks too. Look up “Drinks Package cost” for Royal Caribbean and Carnival.
Hallelujah!
Please resign like yesterday.

I hang out a lot on Cruise Critic which is the biggest social media site for cruising. I agree with what you say but you might be surprised at the number of cruisers who want more rules and more enforcement.
There are many who are true blue rule followers. They follow any rule because it is the rule.
Then there are those who are truly afraid of the virus and are willing to follow any rule that promises them a feeling of safety.
Others just want to cruise again and are willing to put up with Fauci and friends and their rules.
I’ve been savagely attacked for expressing scepticism over the CV rules. Personally, I believe some what the assurance that they’re doing something, anything, that gives them a feeling of control over the CV. Others, mostly politicians similarly want to be seen as “Doing Something” even if it isn’t really effective.
Ever notice that democrat supporters of Biden tend to love these protocols while Trump supports do not.
I wish they would stop using this stupid language.
Look, I follow the science. The science says that indoor crowding, choir practice, travel on cruise ships, dining in restaurants, and not wearing masks all increase the transmission of SARS CoV 2.
The questions after that, though, are not science questions, they are political questions.
Because no one in a position of authority has said, either, "Our policy is to eliminate new cases of SARS CoV 2 infection by doing any and all things necessary", OR, "Look, the virus is going to circulate, it's not that bad, go about our lives and deal with it" we are stuck with the idiotic "I follow the science" trope.
THE SCIENCE DOES NOT TELL LEADERS WHAT TO DO ABOUT THIS DISEASE.
If Ebola were spreading like SARS CoV 2, we would not be having this discussion.
