Are Supreme Court Justices protected by the Secret Service?
self | 9/26/2020 | myself

With all of the hoopla going on about Trump appointing his third SC Justice, as well as the huge ideological differences between the Democrats and the Republicans, the current Justices are worthy of Secret Service protection. In all my time on FR as well as other sources, there has been no mention of SS protection of the SC Justices. What about their family? No better way to get the attention of an SC Justice that to harm or murder one of their family members.

In a sane world and in previous years it has never been brought up. But with the divisions and fragments of this country and of society, the SC Justices and their families should be under SS protection. This will be especially true once a Democrat President takes office. Nother better than to kill numerous SC Justices to allow for the seating of a liberal court.

No, they are protected by the Supreme Court Police and US Marshals and outside of D.C. they get protection only when specifically requested.

Trump has a list of Justices.

If someone assassinates his pick, not only is that incredibly stupid before an election, it would lead to a swift no discussion vote for his next pick.

If the Speaker of the House and other members of the Legislative bodies are worthy of SS protection, then we are way behind in providing the SC that same protection.

Their primary protection is tbe Supreme Court’s own marshals.

I am thinking long term. This is when the Dems take over and will have the opportunity to pack the court with the death of numerous conservative Justices. And they would be able to do that without having to change the number of SC Justices. They are already screeching and hollering about packing the court. This would be the easiest way for them to repack the SC court.

Are you referring to the SC Justices or their protection teams?

A lot of protection can be stashed under those robe’s.

IIRC correctly, the judge who presided over the Charles Manson trial had a revolver under his robe.

They are not worthy of secret service protection and they don't get it.

My father used to carry his .45 with him on the bench if the bailiffs thought there was a risk of trouble. Fortunately, he never had to use it.

Being extremely obese while having a serious heart condition for many years, but still choosing to eat all the pasta and other carbs and sugar and enjoy large amounts of good wine at just about every meal will trash your heart sooner rather than later-Scalia knew that, but he chose a shorter life he enjoyed to the max over a boring, unhappy life with more boring unhappy years in it-his choice-I think it was a good one...
