Classical dynamics says if you know the state of a system at a particular time, this can tell us the entire history of the system, said Germain Tobar, a student in the School of Mathematics and Physics at the University of Queensland.
This has a wide range of applications, from allowing us to send rockets to other planets and modeling how fluids flow.
For example, if I know the current position and velocity of an object falling under the force of gravity, I can calculate where it will be at any time.
However, Einsteins theory of general relativity predicts the existence of time loops or time travel where an event can be both in the past and future of itself theoretically turning the study of dynamics on its head.
A unified theory that could reconcile both traditional dynamics and Einsteins theory of relativity is the holy grail of physics.
But the current science says both theories cannot both be true, Tobar said.
As physicists, we want to understand the Universes most basic, underlying laws and for years Ive puzzled on how the science of dynamics can square with Einsteins predictions.
I wondered: Is time travel mathematically possible?
Tobar and his colleague, Dr. Fabio Costa from the Centre for Engineered Quantum Systems in the School of Mathematics and Physics at the University of Queensland, found a way to square the numbers and their calculations could have fascinating consequences for science.

You most likely would have to wear thick robes, keep at a distance from others, and act rather mysterious in order to discourage people from coming near.
Oh wait, that's pretty much Merlin's modus operandi. So...
And maybe you could find the location of God if you knew all of that. But the never ending problem with such speculation is that it will always result in the same problem:
Need Input.
God is outside the material universe.
It’s great that a couple of you have said that. But we know your expertise in physics as much as we know these guys’ expertise in physics.
Forgive me if I go with the guys in the article :-)
In setting Einsteinian time coordinates, one also sets the coordinates for a place, not in Cartesian terms but in relative terms as to significant objects. Thus Einstein referred to space-time as both integral and relative. Or to put it another way, time travel equations are incomplete without also specifying the destination.
However, Einsteins theory of general relativity predicts the existence of time loops or time travel where an event can be both in the past and future of itself"
Relativity doesn't predict such things. It allows some behavior of time that we would find strange, but it doesn't require "time loops".
"A unified theory that could reconcile both traditional dynamics and Einsteins theory of relativity is the holy grail of physics."
From context he's talking about "classical dynamics" or "traditional dynamics". There is no conflict between that and relativity.
But the current science says both theories cannot both be true, Tobar said."
The current science does not say that. As I said, there is no conflict between classical dynamics and relativity. He's confused.
The "conflict" that does exist is between relativity and quantum theory, although "conflict" is the wrong word. It's not that both can't be true. Both are true, as far as we can tell. The problem is that they are distinctly different theories. Each explains its domain, but they don't have anything in common. It's not a conflict, but it suggests that there's a deeper theory to cover everything.
This is all basic physics taught in entry level courses. If he's confused about this then I highly doubt he has anything really useful to say.
“Now that would be a Groundhog Day scenario I would not mind exeriencing.”
While we are watching this, I hope it includes a replay of Stacy Abrams becoming the gubnar of GA.
Welcome and enjoy your stay.
I see you did not say what planet. Hhhmmmm, enteresting
As you approach the speed of light, your material body begins to convert from mass (matter) to energy ... that energy radiates out into the universe as if you are an antenna.
Does there not have to be a “fixed point” of reference somewhere in the universe in order to measure time? Else, how does one know they actually returned to where they were in time?
To travel back in time, ... it seems all life processes would operate in reverse, cells decayed - restored, energy previously expended recovered to its original state, etc. Therefore, does not the professor have to prove first that there is no 2nd law of thermodynamics for this to work? Also, I would be interested in how the professor’s mathematical solution addresses the condition of temperature = “absolute zero”.
Other than that, I am going to get another cup of coffee and not try to tax my brain too much this early.
“[Other blogger] obviously [was] never been married.” LOL
... or divorced ...
The math professor should interview ex-spouses, especially those who were awarded support payments of any kind. He will find substantial evidence that travel back in time has been around for quite awhile and is well recognized by courts of jurisprudence.
Science Channel runs a show titled:
How the Universe Works, Time Travel.
I highly recommend it for anyone interested in TT. There are some newer interesting theories in the physics world that are discussed.
I thought that Chaos Theory (or one of those other cutely named theories) has declared this impossible - you can either know an object's position, or its velocity, but not both?
And I will say this. If they ever do invent time travel, if Bill Clinton thought his step daddy Roger Clinton was an @$$hole to him, wait until I start dating Virginia Blythe. :-)
Earlier, Jimmuh Catuh.
Time Trax used the parallel universe 200 years prior.
It’s far easier than they present.
We live in a “flat consciousness society.”
Most people never develop their prefrontal cortex analytical thinking ability which is in the Beta frequency (neural oscillation or action potential firing rate) as measured in EEG’s.(about 14 to 40 Hz.)
There are oscillation rates far beyond this that range into the megahertz and gigahertz frequencies. This is how the mystics gain their abilities. Religions teach us how to do this.
Our perception of reality is a function of the frequency of consciousness from which we view it.
When we raise our consciousness above the Beta frequency we awaken and begin to perceive directly from our consciousness (external to our physical bodies) and are not restricted to our 5 senses. This is spiritual awakening or enlightenment.
Time is not just a function of the speed of light.
Time is a function of our frequency of consciousness divided by the speed of light. Time collapses as we tune to higher frequencies. This is how the prophets see into the future.
This is why a day in Heaven is like a thousand on earth.
Everyone can grow spiritually and achieve this. We are all equal in our potential.
Einstein’s failure to understand this created his error in his theory of relativity formula.
I just did it...
Read the whole article and realized I had missed a couple key points and went back in time to re-read it for the first time...
