A few years ago - about the time that video appeared - we had a bumper crop of bobcats around here. They’d pop out of the storm drains on suburban streets, grab small dogs out of fenced back yards, run around on rooftops, and stroll past folks jogging or bike riding on the creekside walkways. Even come into folks houses through open doors. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8v5W2ZUE6w
It was like they were trying to domesticate themselves, or at least take the ecological niche occupied by the feral cats.
They’ve backed off a little in the last couple of years.
I understand that the bears have even gotten down into the northern suburbs of Atlanta. Used to be raccoons were the top of the suburban food chain.
We have been seeing them for years on our farm. I live near the town of Athens, as in the Battle of Athens, and there was one wandering around town a few days ago. They have also been seen in Knoxville. We are so close to the mountains that it’s inevitable that we have them.
My little dogs are house dogs and are never outside after dark without me. They also have a 5’ fenced yard but I keep an eye on them even during the day. The Coyotes we have here are not only nocturnal. We see a lot of them during the day. The wolf in them I guess. When I take the dogs walking on the farm I carry a gun. You never know what you might find when you get out of site of the house.
