The reference is to a country-based analysis updated Sept. 20 that shows a gap between countries that treat COVID-19 early or prophylactically with hydroxychloroquine and those that, like the U.S., discourage or prohibit its use.
The answer to Orient's question can be found in a white paper published by the Economic Standard this month titled "Hydroxychloroquine and the Burden of Proof: An Urgent Call to Depoliticize Medicine in the COVID-19 Pandemic."
"The COVID-19 pandemic struck America nine months before a presidential election, turning basic medical activities like testing and treatment into partisan battlegrounds," writes Economic Standard Editor-in-Chief Erik Sass in the overview. "No subject has been more distorted than hydroxychloroquine (HCQ), a safe, versatile medicine that has treated hundreds of millions of people for numerous diseases for seven decades."
"The U.S. is an international outlier on HCQ," says Sass. "Right now, doctors around the world are prescribing HCQ to treat COVID-19 outside of hospitals, as well as prophylactically to prevent infection among healthcare workers and vulnerable populations."

Sometimes I wonder about the oft-repeated sentiment that US Medicine is the best in the world. There are many pockets of unequalled technical excellence, but there can be problems accessing them. And now, the CDC and FDA are becoming visibly politicized.

One of our family members teaches school in Uganda and a couple of months ago she reported that that Uganda with a population of around 45 million had less than 30 deaths. Ugandans have been using hydroxychloroquine consistently for years as a malaria treatment. Why it has been excoriated is not a mystery...it is a political issue only since Pres. Trump just mentioned it.

Not noted in the article is that countries who don’t have arrogant, condescending, sociopathic lower level officials who order people still contagious with Covid-19 into nursing homes in order to play politics with a pandemic, also have a much lower death rate.

Me, I’ve been taking it about 3-4 times per week with zinc. I have also been keeping my Vitamin D levels very high (I have for years, but I upped my dosage after the China virus hit). I had never been tested before, but got one about a month ago. I’m at 68, with the reference range being from 30 - 80. Under 30, you are far more likely to get infected with any disease, and will then have a harder time get cured. Once my results came back, I bumped my dosage from 5,000 IU/day to 10,000, as I’d like to get up to 80 or so. Vitamin D3 is dirt cheap - you can buy 5,000 IU capsules for about $0.05 each at Sam’s Club or Costco, and not much more at Wallyworld or your local grocery store.
