My first professional job was as an engineer with General Dynamics in Ft. Worth during the early to mid 1980s. That's when they were building the F-16 fighter. I remember a story, i think in the local paper about a woman in Ft. Worth who was contracted by General Dynamics to grow chickens at a prescribed weight and density to be used for "testing." They used a type of air-cannon to fire the chickens at the canopy of F-16s in what they called, "the bird-strike test."

I did not know that. Interesting point.

I do know that the blisks which are fan bladed parts, are very important and if bent, can cause problems. If one is dropped in an engine repair facility, they must be scrapped/majorly reworked.
