The United States is on the cusp of a huge pig 'time bomb' with the number feral hogs increasing in huge numbers.
Research scientist Dr. Jack Mayer, a zoologist who has been researching wild pigs for 40 years, has warned that the population could keep on growing unless there is a sudden swine flu epidemic.
'It's a crazy situation with everything that's happened in what I call the Pig Bomb, which has exploded in North America,' Jack Mayer told The Daily Beast about the wild population of six million and two million in Texas alone.
Florida, Georgia, and California also have vast populations.

Shooting them isnt effective in significantly reducing the numbers. The sounder may have anywhere from half a dozen - 40 or more pigs. If you and a couple of buddies manage to find them and youre equipped with thermal vision scopes at the first shot they star running. So you get one for sure and if youre all good at hitting fast moving targets maybe three more. Next night theyll be someplace else so you keep looking and find them again after a few days. Still hard to hit and kill any significant number. You can spend ever night for weeks and not get rid of one sounder. Best way is to trap them in a corral trap and then shoot them before they can dig out.
I’ll guess that you don’t have much experience raising hogs.
The only real problem is the lack of ammunition.
I cannot find cheap ammo anywhere. Even Wolf or Tulo Russian 7.62x39 is going for $15-$20 a box!
I don’t know about .308 but I don’t think it’s much better.
As I understand it, it’s shoot all you want year around in Georgia
At 3 Months old, little piglet’s are at their tastiest and easy to cook.
I had pork belly nuggets for the first time over the summer.
My new favorite food.
Unlimited spare ribs? Excellent. I just got a Traegger.
We have an incipient invasion of these critters into Southern Canada. I had a supposedly educated biologist tell me it wasn’t a real issue as the cold would kill them off. I gather she never heard of a Russian Wild Boar. Russia probably has cold weather too.
Make it open season all year long with no limit.
Set up traps to capture the whole sounder and then shoot them like fish in a barrel.
It’s the ONLY way of dealing with them.
but even if three quarters of the population is killed off, they would be able to fully repopulate within three years.
Not if the hunting pressure continues.
My buddy just had a recent infestation. His field looked like a minefield after they got done with it. The State and Feds have teamed up here in Missouri and they come out and trap them. They use a huge trap to try and get the whole group at once.
Dog food then.
Dogs won’t care.
Some of them even run for governor.
The solution is simple. Year round hunting season. No bag limit.
Everybody loves barbecue and bacon.
They use a huge trap to try and get the whole group at once.
They’re FAST.
They must have heard the noise of the trap triggering.
They got of taste better than tough venison.
