TACOMA, Wash. — A security guard at a downtown Tacoma building is facing charges Tuesday for allegedly lighting a firecracker in a men's bathroom toilet.
A spokesperson for the Pierce County Sheriff's Department said a fire alarm was activated Sept. 13 just before 3:15 a.m. on the second floor of the County-City Building in downtown Tacoma.
Firefighters entered the building and found smoke coming from the men's restroom. Investigators said it appeared that a firecracker was throw into a toilet.
Surveillance video revealed one of the security employees using his access card to enter the building at 3:10 a.m. when returning from a break. The man walked to the second floor men's restroom and was captured on video entering and exiting the restroom at the time the fire occurred.
Deputies contacted the security guard at his Parkland area residence and arrested him.
The 37-year-old suspect was booked into the Pierce County Jail for arson in the second degree.
State of Washington probably should revoke his guard card...
I wonder if this guy ever was in a "protest"...Some rioters like to play with firecrackers...

How can a guy in security, who knows his job involves being blamed for what goes wrong campus, not know that his access card will trace his movements to the second?
It doesn’t look like the toilet was damaged. Did he forget to flush it after he threw the “firecracker” in it? Or do firecrackers not break the porceline of public restroom style toilets? Other than this was extrmely stupid and had obvious malicious intent... it seems doubtful that the guy will get much more than a slap on the wrist. Of course if this took place in Portland... the mayor would be giving him a medal.

It should say “thrown,” not “throw.” Why don’t today’s reporters know how to spell?

Why is the guard not named? Arrest records are public. They know who he is, yet they are hiding his identity from the public.

I remember teens that did this sixty years ago. A teacher went into the men’s room, sat in a stall. A teen dropped a lit M-80 firecracker into the toilet and flushed it.
A few seconds later all the plumbing shook from the explosion, and of the four stall restroom three columns of water hit the ceiling.
