PITTSBURGH -- Steelers captain Maurkice Pouncey on Thursday announced his intention to make his own choice about what name to put on the back of his helmet, becoming the second player to break from the team's decision to wear the name of police shooting victim Antwon Rose Jr. on helmets for the 2020 season.
"I was given limited information on the situation regarding Antwon, and I was unaware of the whole story surrounding his death and what transpired during the trial following the tragedy," Pouncey, a vocal advocate for the police communities in Pittsburgh and in his Florida hometown, wrote in an Instagram post. "I should have done more research to fully understand what occurred in its entirety.
"... Make no mistake, I am against racism and I believe the best thing I can do is to continue helping repair relationships between the police and their communities."

Love my Steelers and I am glad to see some of them speaking up.
Did I watch the game on Monday—only the last few minutes on YouTube.
Who is the other Steeler that’s not wearing it on his helmet?
Steelers fan here - lifetime. You should have read the vile attacks on Alejandro Villanueva for daring to break with the team and put his own name - the name of a war martyr (who happens to be black) - in place of the kid who got shot running from the cops who were trying to detain him for being involved in a drive-by. Whether he actually was the drive-by shooter is TBD. But running from cops is always a really bad idea.
Pouncey, Pouncey, Tebow
Alejandro Villanueva, a former Army Ranger.
It's folks like this who stand up to the mob who are the true transformative leaders.
Well, as a Cowboys fan, my opinion of him just ticked up a notch or two....................
Here's an idea. There is this thing called the "internet" where you can investigate for yourself before blindly following what others tell you (for political reasons). That said, I gotta give kudos for his actions although the NFL (National Felons League) is something I don't follow any more and I was a diehard fan.
That is putting it lightly. He was a suspect in a drive by shooting.
He’s grown up a bit since leaving UF.
How about Pat Tillman?

Also Im not kneeling for the flag and screw anybody who have a problem with that. My grandmother was a immigrant from the Carribean and age worked her ass off to bring 20 people over the right way. She had no money and educated herself to be a nurse. She's living good now.
I stand for the flag because I am a proud American. Like previously stated, this country has provided and rewarded my family in so many ways through our perseverance and hard work. I will continue to honor my country and be an example to my children to stand for what they believe in. In regards to police brutality and the black lives matter movement I will support these causes through other means. Its unfortunate that a couple unprofessional individuals have caused such havoc on our country and damaged the trust of its citizens. I will not let those individuals steer me from the fact on the opportunity this country gives for everyone. God Bless.
I believe gunshot residue was found on Rose’s fingers.
Police shooting victim?
The must be Democrat speak for Dead Thug.
But that same team also had Hernandez, so I’m still a bit conflicted.
I *want* to believe that Maurkice Pouncey has a good head on his shoulders....
Even P,P and T couldn’t keep Hernandez out of trouble but he was kept from bad press.
To footballers. I don’t care about you, your game, what you think, and don’t care whether one or two are virtue signaling for good, instead of bad like most of all the rest. You (collectively) made your bed. Lie in it.
PS I stopped watching you all: NCAA, NBA, MLB, NFL, NASCAR, F1 in 1992 because it was obvious even then, too many of you were criminals, drug addicts, greedy, self-absorbed, stupid. And, now add hate America and hate Whites making YOU guys the racists. I will never, ever turn on the TV to watch you and certainly never go to a game even if it was free. Ever.
