Edward was the eldest son of Queen Victoria and at the time of the 1860 visit (prior to Canada becoming an independent nation), he was the Prince of Wales. He had to wait until 1901, at age 60, until he succeeded his mother and was crowned King Edward VII. He died in 1910.

The current Prince Charles is 71 and has been next in line to the throne since 1952. Queen Elizabeth has been on the throne for 68 years, 5 years longer than Queen Victoria.
