Hawai’ians are very proud of their indigenous tropical flora.
Fabrics and clothing abound in Hawai’i gift shops with leaves of many of the local plants.
There is one design that is known as the “State Leaf” design.
This may be a tropical plant design on his shirt.
I have a few items of clothing with these patterns gifted from my daughter on Maui.

The taro, the breadfruit, the coconut... none of it native to Hawaii. It was brought from Bora Bora in the 8th century.
