I knew the Dutch were big sea-going traders, but had no idea of that fact. That is astonishing. My ancestors on my grandfather's wife's side were from the southern Baltic and the towns there were very wealthy from the extensive international trade.

The Vasa was a Swedish warship that sank in 1628, and raised in 1961. My oldest son visited the ship's museum on one of his trips overseas:
