Living near a major joint training base, I see young trainees from every service. Soldiers, Marines, Sailors and Airmen; young people during the summer heat who are out there sweating and pushing their minds and bodies; submitting to a drill sergeant or skill instructor. They have enlisted with a determination to finish the course they set themselves on. As I watch them marching by in cadence they are nameless faces. I see them in the PX and I smile at them. When graduations come they are in their dress uniforms and many of them have families present. They are someone's son or daughter, husband or wife or friend. Many of these young warriors will soon be sent somewhere where they will be put at risk.
We live in the flight path of attack and bombing planes, going to the fort's aerial gunnery ranges from the nearby Air Force bases. Sometimes they disappear from the normal overflights and I know they are deployed in harms way somewhere.
Often times as these airplanes pass overhead or I watch a formation of young men and women in various uniforms marching by I raise my hand to God. My prayers go up and they fly and march through my prayers as I ask for the power of God to protect and keep these young Americans safe as they face the horrors of war. I petition for guardian angels to be protective shields while bullets fly around them.
This young generation of warriors stand between us and threats to our country. Some join the military right out of high school. They have not yet lived their lives in their home towns. As an Army wife, I know all too well how the risks and terrors of war and combat can and will affect the lives of these young heroes to be. They will enjoy comradeship, brotherhood of arms and terrible fears and experiences that will last the rest of their lives. How their loved ones will await news, the next phone call or email and how families will raise children apart at times, and how the entire family will be bound in honor of sacrifice over the long haul. We ought to remember the efforts, dedication and suffering of our fighting men and women every day. Thank a veteran or person in uniform, give their spouse a hug or a handshake and encourage their children.
AdBusters has plans to call thousands of anarchists and radical haters and rioters to mass in front of the White House on Sept 17 till election day. If the president has to employ the insurrection act or other measures to protect the seat of our government it will very likely be up to our Soldiers and Marines, who I feel very motherly towards, facing domestic and foreign terrorists and criminals within our borders. It enrages me that all the training and work that has gone into the making of these warriors may have to be used to keep our capitol safe.
It reminds me of how Jesus willingly offered Himself up for us as a sacrifice to satisfy the Righteous Demands from a Holy God. While our temporal efforts pale in comparison, His suffering, death and glorious resurrection offer rescue and salvation from this fallen world and its cares and troubles.
Adding to my previous post, we should note that September 17 should be filled with prayers of thanksgiving for that day’s significance as a day of celebration of our glorious Constitution as well.
