My dad was one of those 2nd Armored cav guys who got Patton all excited by patrolling on horses when the the mud was impassable. Patton wrote about it in War As I Knew It.
I started riding at 3, and was taking Yankees on guided rides at 18. Now my neighbors have horses and I just get to watch them and feed them a carrot here and there, which is just fine. Neighbors get to clean up the manure.
