Pickles and juice keep my husband from developing heat cramps in his strenuous construction work in south Florida. There is absolutely no evaporative cooling with the high humidity. One is sweat soaked all day. Two years ago he was hospitalized after cramping so bad his legs were kicking uncontrollably like a marionette.
Pickle juice apparently contains trace minerals and electrolytes besides sodium and potassium. Perhaps magnesium, even selenium?
Hand cramps develop first in which case he takes some. Even V8 and combinations of other juices salty and otherwise don’t help. They also make frozen pickle juice popsicles.

Last year I found LiquidIV on Amazon. Single-use packets of electrolytes to add to a bottle of water. They’ve really made a difference. They’re available at Costco now.
