Prachett was/is a Big Deal among Fantasy writers and readers. He almost broke into the stratosphere with Rowling, Martin, and (thanks to his son) Tolkien.

Frankly, I’ve never read him. But everyone I know who has always enjoyed his whimsical books. He reminds me of Piers Anthony in that way.
