Statement from the Press Secretary
whitehouse.gov ^ | September 1, 2020 | White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany

Posted on 09/02/2020 12:54:13 PM PDT by ransomnote

By publishing a plan that recommends potentially removing the Washington Monument, Christopher Columbus Statue, Andrew Jackson Statue, and Jefferson Memorial—among many other ludicrous recommendations—the radically liberal mayor of Washington, D.C., is repeating the same left-wing narrative used to incite dangerous riots: demolishing our history and destroying our great heritage. Our Nation’s capital is rightly filled with countless markers, memorials, and statues to honor and respect the men and women who built this country. President Donald J. Trump believes these places should be preserved, not torn down; respected, not hated; and passed on for generations to come. As long as President Trump is in the White House, the mayor’s irresponsible recommendations will go absolutely nowhere, and as the mayor of our Nation’s capital city—a city that belongs to the American people—she ought to be ashamed for even suggesting them for consideration.

This too should be hung around Basementman’s neck. Demand that he disavow the crackpots and nutcases that populate the democrat party.

The District of Columbia is a constitutionally created locality for their Federal government. The city has home rule under the DC home rule act, but that also makes the city government part of the Executive Branch. The DC city government has no right to unilaterally rename or tear down federal monuments and buildings.

There is no reason the Home Rule Act cannot be repealed. A federal enclave does not need an elected mayor or city council. Any DC resident who thinks that does not give them all the rights they want, is free to move somewhere else. Baltimore, for example.

The Constitution gives Congress the authority to legislate for DC “in all cases whatsoever”.

In case you are foggy on the Declaratory Act (1766), check it out. The authors of the Constitution were very well aware of the specific meaning of “in all cases whatsoever”, as they had just fought a war over it, and they certainly did not intend to permit such a travesty as the unconstitutional DC “government”.

The city has home rule under the DC home rule act, but that also makes the city government part of the Executive Branch.

So, in theory, as head of the Executive Branch, PDJT can sign an EO today abolishing DC home rule and putting DC under federal control.

Make it so!

It’s an act of Congress, so the President can’t abolish home rule without another Congressional act.
